Required all adoptions to go through a Magistrates Court rather than the Maori Land Court. The Maori Land Court option that had more open records meaning the adopted child could in later life know their original parents, hapu and whakapapa. In 1962 Adopted Maori Children were prevented from being adopted by relatives with a preference for young pakeha couples to adopt Maori Babies as part of the assimilation process. Do you know of any Ngati Pahauwera whanau members that were adopted after 1962 that we can show were affected by this assimilation process? NGATI PAHAUWERA DEVELOPMENT AND TIAKI TRUSTS - ELECTION OF THREE TRUSTEES TO SERVE FOUR YEAR TERM

NOMINATIONS CLOSED

Nominations have now closed for three trustees to replace retiring trustees of the Ngati Pahauwera Development and Tiaki Trusts and serve a four year term alongside continuing trustees Gerald Aranui, Sissiel Henderson, Charlie Lambert and Tureiti Moxon.

Voting opens 17 July 2010 and ends 17 August 2010, and the results will be posted on the Ngati Pahauwera website www.ngatipahauwera.co.nz no later than 27 August 2010. Voting packs will be received shortly by those Ngati Pahauwera 18 years or older registered on the Ngati Pahauwera membership roll.
