Hui A Iwi – May 2011
TRUSTEES REPORT
The Marine and Coastal Area Act 2011
- The Trustees are capitalising on the fact that we are only iwi to have tested our Customary Rights in The Maori Land Court and are well placed to be first off the blocks in progressing our case in the High Court
- The Trustees have engaged our legal team to progress this issue
THE NGATI PAHAUWERA SETTLEMENT BILL
- The Trustees have received a tentative date for the first hearing of the Ngati Pahauwera Settlement Bill in Parliament.
- The Bill will be read in the house on the 17th of May at around 3pm.
- The Ngati Pahauwera Bill will be read in conjunction with that of two other tribes meaning we are limited in how many of our people we can take into Parliament on the day.
SUBMISSIONS
- The next part of the process is that people send in submissions that either support the Bill and these submissions are considered by the Select Committee who report to Parliament.
- We encourage our people to send submissions to support the Bill.
- If you need help contact Marie and Michelle at the Ngati Pahauwera office.
