Important Negotiations update

As set out in the Terms of Negotiation signed by Ngati Pahauwera and the Crown, both parties were to use their best endeavors to reach an Agreement in Principle by 7 September 2008.  We have been advised by the Crown that the relevant Ministers require further time to prepare different parts of the offer to Ngati Pahauwera, and the revised date that is now being aimed at for an Agreement in Principle is 30 September 2008.

We do not consider that this small delay will be detrimental to Ngati Pahauwera, and hope that this means that the Crown is working on preparing its best possible offer.  This does however mean that our meeting schedule is altered.  In particular, our proposed consultation hui on a draft Agreement in Principle is now proposed to take place in mid September and further details will be released shortly.  We propose that the hui a iwi scheduled for 30 August 2008 which was originally intended to allow whanau to approve the Agreement in Principle now be a Treaty negotiations update hui and the third claimant definition wananga to consider the revised drafting of the claimant definition following the last wananga.  The hui will therefore be held on:

                        30 August 2008

Registrations are still coming in for the membership roll and we are working hard to enter these on the membership roll.  If you have not yet registered, please do so and make sure all of your whanau are also registered.

At present there are many registrations that have been received with no addresses or dates of birth on them.  As a result of this, a lot of time is being spent trying to find the missing information.  It is also important to write clearly to minimize errors.
