July 2009 Panui

Tena koutou te whanau,

The Trustees

We are approaching the completion date for our Treaty Claims - November 2009.  Everyone has their ears to the ground and eyes peeled for any opportunities to getthe best deal we can for our people.  You can help us better by attending Hui-a-Iwi and telling us what you want, kaua e whakama (don’t be shy) or contact Marie anonymously.  This is our one and final chance to help ourselves.  There are only seven of us, don’t be led by a minority, you put us here, now help us to achieve our goals.

Registrations

Everybody of Pahauwera descent need to register.  We need to grow our registrations.  We need to register your whole family babies, toddlers, teenagers, older teenagers, everyone.  To begin the process all we require is your name, date of birth, current address and your contact details.  If you know your whakapapa that would help or your grand parents names.   All completed registrations are to be sent to:

P O Box 374 - Wairoa - 4160

Crown Negotiations

Fran Wilde is a new face in our negotiations.  She freely admitted that she is a politician.  Some of you would have read about her visit to our area of interest or perhaps have met her in person.  Fran has many avenues she can use to assist us in achieving our goals.  We have allowed her to do just that.  However if it’s not what we want, we will call a hui to update you on the progress of our Treaty Negotiation Claims.

Tohu Competition

Not many entries so far.  Hurry up, you have until the end of August.  What symbol do you want us to use on letterheads, tshirts, signposts etc etc.  Send them to: PO Box 374 - Wairoa - 4160

Hui-a-Iwi

These are held monthly to keep you up to date with our Treaty Negotiations with the Crown.  We have moved about from marae in our rohe, to allow all of you to participate.  Once again we were warmly hosted by the kaiawhina o Te Maara A Ngata.  The theme of this hui was our Cultural Harvest Plans.  To take rongoa plants when our needs were called for.  Thanks to all those who attended and asked questions and gave us an insight to historic places in Putere (Walker Gilbert).

Family Records

We need these to help us identify one another.  Everyone has a whakapapa, whether it is in Maori or English.  Please help us do this.
