GRAVEL EXTRACTION
NPDT has met regularly with HBRC in regards to who can extract and where and how much one is able to take. NPDT is the authority to approach for consent for this activity.
CULTURAL REDRESS
Te Heru-o-Tureia & Lime Stone Ridge - A procedure of transfer and gift back that would be agreeable to Ngati Pahauwera. The Hui-a-Iwi participants will need to advise NPDT what they want.
WATER CONSERVATION ORDER
The presence of this order within the Ngati Pahauwera core area (between Te Hoe and Willowflat) is inconsistent with the tino rangatiratanga of Ngati Pahauwera over Mohaka River. Therefore NPDT requests the removal of the WCO in our Core Area. Ngati Pahauwera do not seek to revoke the Order in its entirety but simply to vary the goegraphical ambit so that it does not apply between Te Hoe Junction and Willowflat.
ENGAGEMENT WITH Mfish
NPDT sought recognition as a notifying authority to make decisions or to negotiate on matters concerning the sustainability of fisheries on the Mohaka River and the Wairoa Hard. NPDT are against the opening up of Commercial Fishing.
LETTERS OF INTRODUCTION
The Crown is tardy in the process of forwarding letters to other Government authorities regarding the Ngati Pahauwera Governance Entity. One example; NPDT was asked by the Crown to furnish a list of Museums they wished to send these letters to. A list was sent. A reply came back from the Crown - NPDT must explain why they were interested in these recipients (Museums) in particular. It is important for all Ngati Pahauwera to know where some of our taonga may be held, this was the main point for us. We don’t know where or what any Museum may have, but having an introductory letter to some of them just makes searching that much easier.

WHICH TRUST?
In respect to the return of Cultural Lands returned in the settlement, Ngati Pahauwera can choose whether these will transfer to the Ngati Pahauwera Development Trust or the Ngati Pahauwera Tiaki Trust.
THE TIAKI TRUST can hold lands or assets. It provides protection, as this keeps them away from the commercial work of the Development Trust. They cannot be removed from the power of NPTT who are charged with the security or otherwise alienation except by Special Resolution of Ngati Pahauwera.
Lands held by NPTT can also be listed as wahi tapu if 50% of those at an AGM agree. The NPTT Deed provides an assurance that wahi tapu cannot be alienated from Ngati Pahauwera. Also once lands are listed as wahi tapu, they cannot be unlisted.
THE DEVELOPMENT TRUST is the Commercial and Operational Arm. The NPDT perform the functions of the Governance Entity for the purposes of a future Deed of Settlement Legislation.
