Mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa

“Te Oranganui o Ngati Pahauwera”

This is our Mission Statement unanimously adopted by all at a Hui-a-Iwi (HAI), at Mohaka Marae.  This is the driving principle of operation for your Trustees.

At this same HAI we made a ‘Wish List’; all of them achievable.  This is our one and only opportunity to attain the best outcomes for ourselves in our Treaty Negotiations.

Your input is vital.  Attend HAI.  Share your whakapapa knowledge, those ‘old stories’ koro/kui told you; any historic records in family bibles and find your whanau and Register them.

PAN PAC

Are the current Leesees of the Mohaka Forest.  One of their plantations backs onto Paroa Station.  They sought Ngati Pahauwera Development Trustees (NPDT) assistance to support their aim to create access through Paroa Station.  NPDT directed their request to the Paroa Station Trustees.

LAND PURCHASE OFFER

A property, within our Core Area of interest has come up for sale under mortgage to the Auckland Savings Bank, NPDT are investigating the viable aspects to purchase.

DOC LANDS

How does one express ‘pohara’ to The Crown, sitting in their air-conditioned offices or untangling DOC’s grip over our lands.  By their own admission, they don’t do pest control, eradicate noxious plants e.g gorse and blackberry in fact they don’t do much at all.  NPDT invited our Chief negotiator Fran Wilde to come and see for herself.  She came, saw and agreed.  Next step was a return visit by Fran with the Minister of Treaty Negotiations, The Honorable Chris Finlayson, a DOC executive and other officials from the Crown.

They were taken to see all DOC lands from Waihua to Putere Primary School.

CROSS CLAIMS

NPDT met with our neighbours, they had concerns in regards to Ngati Pahauwera’s wider Area of Interest and our Core Area of Interest.  NPDT are concerned that some hapu south of the Waikare River in their Area of Interest are not being represented.

A Cross Claim Meeting was held at Petane Marae, facilitated by John Clark and attended by; Ngati Hineuru Incorporation, Maungaharuru Tangitu Incorporation, Mana Ahuriri Incorporation and Matepu.  The Crown sent observers as well; Genevieve Meyer, Felicity Curts and Heather Baggot.

NPDT gave a presentation explaining the difference between Wider Area of Interest and the Core Area of Interest.  No explanation was forthcoming in regards to the unrepresented hapu in their Area of Interest.  However NPDT were happy that all hapu present were in agreement that they had no issue with Ngati Pahauwera’s Core Area of Interest and now had a better understanding of what The Wider Area of Interest pertained to.
