Tenei te powhiri ki a koutou,
Nga waihotanga a ratau,
Nga toa a Tumatauenga.
To honour the men of the 28 (Maori) Battalion, D Company, we are creating a Digital Touch Table to preserve and promote their war history and experiences. To add to the Table, we are seeking photographs, stories and information on the men of D Company.
While all D company soldiers will be included with a military summary and portrait, it will be those of Ngati Kahungunu iwi who we are looking to feature with more information, more photographs and interviews.
The table will touch on their pre and post war lives with photos, film, some personal interviews as well as whanau interviews.
For nearly 1000 men we will have a military summary and a portrait. There will be, where possible, a life story with photographs.
The table will be portable and can be borrowed for use at marae or ANZAC day functions.
A similar Touch Table can be viewed at the Wairoa Museum and i-Site where over 900 men from Wairoa who served in WW1 are featured.
