Guiding on the mighty Mohaka Awa, one of Aotearoa’s most legendary rivers – Scenic float trips on gentle pools to full day big water adventures on thundering rapids, our team at Mohaka Rafting & Adventures are seeking NZ-qualified guides to join our extreme expeditions.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the ideal candidate will carry energy and respect for the technical lines of our majestic river and take pride in delivering an engaging adventure for our diverse client base. You will be physically fit, have solid river experience, with a focus on strong safety culture, competently deliver professional and tight river operations and good decision-making under pressure. Requirements:
NZRA Grade 4/5 or NZRA Senior Grade 4/5 Raft Guide Award
Sound knowledge of NZ Rafting Industry legislation, procedure and processes.
Current First Aid Certification
Current NZRA Rescue Workshop attendance (within requirement of 3 years)
Current Drivers Licence – P endorsement preferred.
Competent in communicating with clients, third party interest groups such as river users and regulatory authorities.
Strong English and competency in Te Reo Māori and Tikanga advantageous
Advanced computing knowledge, social media and photo editing preferred.

Engineering opportunities on the Waikare
Environmental and Landscaping Engineering cadetship.
Role Purpose Statement
This role recognises that Environmental and landscaping construction extends beyond physical project delivery and provides opportunities to create enduring environmental and cultural value. The Site Engineer will contribute to achieving these outcomes by combining engineering expertise with cultural awareness, supporting the vision of mana whenua and the direction of mana whenua representatives throughout project delivery.
Two cadetship roles will be available for six months each during the delivery phase of the project, pending award of the delivery phase in November 2026.
Engineering cadetship in landscaping and Environmental management will report to the Waikare Environmental Manager.
The Cadetship is a site-based position, with academic studies completed outside of normal working hours. Participants are provided with approximately two weeks of study leave each year to support their educational commitments. The role offers a base salary of $65,000 per annum.
The New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE) qualification typically takes approximately four years to complete. Accordingly, the 6-month block at Waikare provides a valuable head start towards achieving the qualification, combining practical industry experience with academic progress.
Environmental and Landscaping key focus and responsibilities
- Reports to the Environmental Manager for Waikare
- Assist with quality assurance and control processes
- Develop an understanding of the relationship between construction deliverables, site-specific cultural values and project aspirations.
- Support the implementation of cultural, ecological, and restoration initiatives identified by mana whenua and their advisors.
- Support restoration planting, ecological enhancement, waterway protection, and other landscape-focused initiatives.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and environmental requirements.
- Contribute to project administration, reporting, and documentation
- Collect and analyse data to support budgeting and cost control
- Assist field teams to ensure safe and efficient delivery of work
- Supporting daily and weekly planning of site operations

- Demonstrates curiosity and a proactive desire to learn
- Open, honest, and effective communicator
- Willingness to contribute within a collaborative, team-oriented environment
