Pahauwera Profiles

In mid-2023, we invited members of Ngāti Pāhauwera to nominate people in their whānau who are doing cool stuff in their mahi! Just look at the broad range of skills we have here in Ngāti Pāhauwera. Me whakanui – we should celebrate our success!

Rangatahi mā, kei ōu ringaringa te ao – the world is yours.

If you have a whanaunga you’d like to nominate (or nominate yourself!) for Pāhauwera Profiles email us at [email protected]

Jasmine Emma Marina Thornton

"Ko taku rekereke ko taku turangawaewae" - Where I dig my heels is where I make my stand. Spoken by our Rangatira Te Kahu o Te Rangi before he went to war. It is a message of self worth and meaning that true strength comes from within.

Nicole Titihuia Hawkins

“Mai i te Kōpae ki te Urupa, tātou ako tonu ai” - because it reminds me that we don’t have to be masters at everything and no matter how old you get there’s still so much to learn

Connie Buchanan

Kei ōu ringaringa te ao - the world is yours. I like this because there are a million different ways to live a good life and it's up to you, not anyone else, to decide what's right for you.

Toni Huata

"E rere e te huata hopukia, e rere e te manuka tomokia." When the huata spear flys gasp it, when the manuka flys, enter it.

Roxanne Niblett

I believe that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Laura Gemmell

"E hara taku toa, i te toa takitahi, he toa takitini"- I love this whakatauki because it talks about the importance of working together.

Jarom Hauwai-Sauer

‘He waka eke noa’ We're all in this together. The words speak for themselves.

Tyrell Gemmell

‘Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu’

Te Aro Moxon

‘Ko te amorangi ki mua, ko te hāpai ō ki muri’ This whakataukī encourages us to put wairuatanga first and the rest will follow.

Dylan Huata

‘Be Live Art, Nurture Creativity’

Haukapuanui Vercoe

‘Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei’ – Reach for the stars.

Willie McNabb

“Ko au te awa ko te awa ko au”

Zeb Tamihana Nicklin

‘Mā te manako i te koura e kore ai’ Wanting a crayfish doesn't make it appear. It reminds us when you want something you have to go and get it.

Lucky Hawkins

‘I am a firm believer in breaking down barriers in education.’

Ed Waaka

‘Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei.’ Seek the treasure you value most dearly. If you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain.
